A Good Life

Your alarm clock wakes us before the dawn, I rise to pour our coffee. You wait patiently for me to bring it to you. A morning kiss and we begin to start our day, you starting in the Word, and me, soaking in His presence and searching for words to express my gratitude. With gratefulness for each other and Life and Love, we begin the slow process of waking up until we are ready to walk out the door for work. We go our separate ways and do the work God has given us to do.

We meet back at home in the afternoon and share a meal and rest. Watch the news until we’re sick of it, and flip the channel as we melt into the furniture. Talk of work and the day that unfolded for us takes over the early evening. Talk of our relationships and those we love, things we can pray for, and maybe an evening walk. The close of day and the bed feels so good. We rest our weary bones and sleep overtakes us. We look forward to the weekend, when work will not take so much of our strength and time. Plans are made and talked about.

Saturday comes and we take on chores and work around the house. Or we run out and look about. Maybe an afternoon nap and rest that didn’t come during the week. Enjoying the quiet and meaningless moments that mean so much. A love that goes beyond the tender touch and lasts through the boring times. Dull moments that come, but we know they don’t last. For we know that Life will not always be excitement and adventure. The adventure is sometimes found in what we can do in the slow times. Making our way and navigating our moods, we rise and fall at differing times. I turn to you and you’ve turned away. A disagreement, some pouting, who knew we were flawed? An Anchored Love, some time to reflect, the matter didn’t matter anyway and we learn to forget. We are different you and I, but we know each other too well. Things we don’t recognize in ourselves, are told to us by the other. We sulk and take note and come back around to understanding, for the good of our love and for one another.

We dance the dance of life, we love and we trust. There is love in our touch and tone of our voices. We are filled by a Greater Love that rises above all the noises. We hope and we dream but most of all cling, to the promise we made so many years ago. When the leaves were golden and we walked for miles. We had found the love we were designed for. As two were becoming one, we dared to hope and dream and looked towards the future, unprepared and unseen. When the world disappeared and it was only you and I and the Smile of God. We could not have known all that would unfold, but it has been glorious; the good, the bad and the ugly. Times we’ve been down and times we’ve been scared. Times mundane, exciting, and tragic have come. We’ve lost those we loved and we’ve welcomed new life. Our hearts have melted and they have fallen apart. We have found in Him a Constant Love, when all around us was shattered and blown by every wind.

The many things that I don’t do well, are unintentional. But I am learning to Love well from the Author of Love. My deficiencies, though many, will fall away as He teaches me to Love you better. My heart aches for times I have hurt you, but I know they are forgiven by you and Him. We are committed, with Him committed to us. He has given us a Good Life. Friends, Family and Life in the Little Moments. We might have missed them if we hadn’t known to look. We slowed down long enough to notice.

So when we don’t go anywhere, and tropical locales allude us. When we enjoy good food, music and friendships. Whether we go or we stay, whether the rain pours down or the skies are blue, we know all about the Good Life. And I couldn’t have imagined any of this without you….
