As I draw my last breath of slumber for the night, I awake to the last of Your Song. Your Mercies have found me and awakened me. I am thankful for the night of rest and as I stir and stretch, I know that my strength has been renewed for the day ahead. I rise to the smell of coffee brewing in the kitchen, and I am glad for the warmth it will provide. She sits beside me and we soak in the morning. You have extended the invitation to relationship with You, and we have been found by You. We are thankful for another day to explore the depths of Your mercy and goodness.

The first light of dawn slides over the hill, and several deer dance in the silhouette of the morning sky. The cows are slow to rise, but are awake. I place the car in drive, and begin my trek, past the place where the mourning doves gather and the rabbits chase each other around the curve. The thick fog is lifting, giving way to the approaching light. That German Shepherd runs alongside the car, enjoying the morning and the breath in his lungs. I cross the creek and a lone deer stands in the slowly running stream. As the birds flit and flutter along the fence posts and edges of the fields, my heart takes in Your Creation, and I am reminded of the intended and original purpose for every created thing. I pass over the great bridge with that lazy river running underneath, I think of the life teeming in those waters doing what you have designed them to do.

I pass by many houses and communities along the way and I think of Your Love for every person as I drive past—people that I do not know, but who love, work, and play just as I do. Your Grace is for them and You gave up Your Life for them as well as for me. I arrive at work and am able to sit and enjoy more time in Your Word. The recurring theme of Love undeserved and freely given, reminds me of my place in Your Redemption story. The Love You have revealed to me, I am to show and extend without reservation or hesitation. But, Oh my God, when I don’t! Help me, Father!

Aware of the various ways that I fail to show and live out this Love in my every day, I look to You. I call on You for forgiveness, and ask for the strength to love others as You have loved me. A friend needs prayer, or I share a prayer need with them. We strengthen and encourage each other throughout the day, for we all need this. A slightly disjointed and fragmented group of believers, as we make it through the workweek, looking forward to the coming weekend and time off. A time that we again share with our families and worship families. You are leading us all into deeper fellowship with You and other members of Your Body. You are walking us through how to love others and we are still learning.

We are a broken people, beset by sins and habits that run contradictory to Your Word and Desire for us. Acknowledging that we fall short, You pick us up, dust us off and set us back on that narrow way. We meet and help others along the way. The enemy attacks us along the road and attempts to stop us completely, but no amount of adversity will keep us from persevering and pushing forward. The celestial city is ever before us and we must keep going, no turning back. Some fall by the wayside and need to rest awhile. We try to wait with them, pray for them, and love them through the stumbles. But we must keep moving forward—learning and growing, for You are teaching us. The journey is long with many twists, turns and curves, but You light the way Home. We keep walking, one step at a time….
