We may have been the last people on the planet to see the movie Frozen. Our grandson singing loudly, Let it Go, caught us off guard as he seemed to know all of the words. I didn't catch all of the lyrics but I think there is some good advice in the title at least. After a few days with the grandkids, filled with pillow fights, sunny afternoons at the park and the Octonauts, I can honestly say that they make me feel alive and remember what it is to view the world through that lens of innocence. They laugh, get loud, eat, and don't eat. They also take me back to when I was younger and recall how I used to pretend while playing and trust the significant adults in my life. I share knowledge of things not yet known to them and in amazement they light up. I think it is important to remember these times and the times of my own past and childhood when I could still be filled with wonder at life and the world around me.
As we get older, and lose that innocent and trustful perspective, we pass into the cynical and skeptical realm which slowly takes us over. We forget that childhood faith in goodness and love. We begin to believe that these present moments are all that we have. We lose the eternal connection in our hearts when we give in to this darkness and believe that most if not all people have designs to hurt us, to wound us and to take from us. Worst of all, is that we sometimes begin to believe that the Giver of Life, God Himself would hold out on us. Keep us from having something good or take away something we treasured. I believe the best way to combat this is to Let it Go. Let go of the adult world and all of the hurt and disappointment and embrace our younger selves..Return to the days of having Faith Like a Child and believing that with God all things ARE possible. Believe that His plans ARE to give us a Future and a Hope. And stop looking at the world pessimistically and negatively. It's hard to be a light if we're covered up with dirt and grime and belief that all is lost. If we are Redeemed, then we should believe that the Redeemer will restore what was once lost and is in the process of making all things new, starting with us and hopefully our attitudes.
