Praise Hymn

As the first lights of dawn begin to trickle into our home, sleep has breathed its last for this day. I continue to lie and stretch even as a to-do list forms in my head. Everything in me compels me to rise and I make my way into the kitchen for the freshly brewed coffee beans that await my cup. I open the blinds and sunlight filters in. The world is singing Your praises already, and I, I have yet to begin!

It has been a difficult season with a flurry of activity; an issue of health, the big move into the country, and the long list of things to be done. But You have provided rest even as, somehow between all of this, many items have been crossed off of the list. Your faithfulness and constant goodness remind me that through these adverse situations, You know exactly what You are doing. Great is Your Faithfulness!

As I slip outside, I hear the chorus already begun; the songbirds proclaiming their joy, a bumblebee visiting a flower nearby. The tiniest of sparrows dance around the oak tree close to the porch as a young, lean squirrel makes its way onto, over, and around the canopy of trees in the front yard. The grass is glistening from the dew and a glint of sunlight bounces off a strand of silken spider’s web that connects several of the trees. The mockingbirds sing their songs and their friends gather close.

The Hibiscus flowers lift their heads towards the rising sun. A robin appears puffing up its breast and taking in the air and stretching in the soft morning sunlight. The morning-glories on the fence, say hello to the gladiolas beside them. I am enraptured by this Hymn of Praise to the Creator, even as distant noises fade from my hearing.

A gentle breeze kisses me through the cool, humid air. That lone squirrel is finding treats on the ground that has been softened by the showers of the previous evening. The bumblebee floats by me on the way to its next stop..

I join my wife at the breakfast table and as we sip our coffee, we read your words of Life. A glance out the window reveals a pair of rabbits munching on the clover outside. A hummingbird has found the rain-soaked flowers full of nectar at breakfast this early morning. If these beautiful creatures, protected by Your Hands and Your care for them, can find such bounty in Your Creation, how much more can we find the strength and nourishment that we need in your Words of Life? Your Creation and everyday care reveal to us Your Love for us. How could we ever doubt this?

Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
Psalm 103:1-5 (NLT)
