The Lights From Home

Jesus has forever wrecked my early images of who God is. I took the long way home, but I am here now.

He is the image of the invisible God. His characteristics and traits are direct and divine revelations to us of the God who sits in Heaven. The Way to the Father, His Love for us was on full display at the Cross, where, with Love, He cried out for the Father to forgive those who had placed Him there. The soldiers, the Jewish religious elite, the scattered disciples and the women of the Cross. People just like you and I, who have lost our way, who, in our pride, long to be the kings and queens of our own hearts. Looking down on us from that Cross with Love in His Eyes, He offers Forgiveness to all.

The goodness of God, revealed in and through His Son, has broken chains for countless thousands over the years. Their journeys have been anything but easy, filled with the obstacles of shame and regret, believing that the Righteous One could never see beyond their sins and acts of rebellion. These saints who have tread the ground that lays before us now, have knocked down the weeds, kicked away the stones and stumbling blocks, and made clear to us the pitfalls that we could easily fall into. Though we each make our own journey of Faith towards an ultimate Trust in this Sovereign, Saving God, we each experience certain Truths along the way, and maybe not in the same ways or exactly at the same times as others who are walking this same road. Pilgrims making their way towards the Celestial City, growing into our ever-deepening relationship with this Kind, Loving and Good Father.

Jesus, The Bridge to the Father, gives us an in-depth and up close view into the Father’s Heart in the Gospels. A man of Compassion and Tenderness, a Healer, Teacher and His Father’s Son. As He pointed the way to God and spoke of the Kingdom to Come, He offered redemption to all, but they would have to choose it. Choose Life or be satisfied with the one they had made for themselves. Not all would choose wisely, not all would open their hearts to His Good News. It is the same today. Many need to know this news. Many can’t find a way to believe it, no way that God could love them that much. To break into time, send His Son to die for them, to cleanse them from all unrighteousness. They have seen flashes of anger and associated that with God, with authority and so they cower and bend low. But He stoops down and still reaches out. Will they take His Hand? The invitation is still extended.

The Call comes from the Cross, a cry of Love as His breath is fleeting, His heart faintly beating. He has shown us the Way to His Good Father, invited us to call Him the same. The Way has been shown, The Truth has Come, the Life is still offered to us. He sends out light as the Light of the World, many are still searching for it in the dead of night. They catch a faint glimpse of it. They slowly make their way. The Lights from Home still call. Waiting, patiently, for all who would come, come home to Him. A celebration awaits them like none they have ever known.
