“….. Don’t be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the Lord rescue you. The Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. You won’t have to lift a finger in your defense.”
Exodus 14:13-14 NLT
Many times in this life, we come to the edge. A crucial moment where, without God’s intervention, we will come to harm. It could be a medical decision that needs to be made. Maybe a crushing financial blow that means we will not be maintaining our current situation. Many of our relationships can come to this breaking point. Our plans and the plans that God has for us do not seem to be on the same trajectory. What we thought was going to happen and what is happening are nowhere near the same.
People we love depart this world. Relationships fall apart, including marriages. Our dream home is no longer affordable. Even our most basic needs and wants can disintegrate. An economic downturn and a loss of a job can spell disaster and a search for another place to live. Our reliable transportation suddenly changes into an expensive project. Just affording gas can be an issue and putting groceries on the table may require assistance.
But in those moments, times of incredible stress and worry, take heart! The Lord your God has not abandoned you. He has not left you alone as an orphan. He has not taken His eye off of you! He has not forgotten or removed you from His memory!
He is waiting for us to come to Him, our Only Hope, and gather up enough courage to trust Him. We know we can’t do anything about the situation. We know that we have a God who can, but sometimes we still want to deal with things on our own.
Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 (NLT)
Clinging to the last strands at the end of our rope, we still hold out that what we know is better than God’s Foreknowledge. May we learn to surrender to the One whose purposes and plans for our life are better than ours. God knows the plans that He has for us (Jeremiah 29:11), and they are far better than anything we can come up with on our own.
So then the issue, once again, is Trust. Do you believe that God has a better tomorrow than the one you are dreaming of? Do you believe that the One who breathed the stars into existence is strong enough to keep your life from falling apart? Do you know that He can be trusted and all He asks is for us to wait and see the Salvation of the Lord? You have waited for most of your life for the things that you once thought could satisfy and now they are falling apart. Can we not wait to see His Deliverance? Can we not Trust that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours?
Surely, there are tough things that we will go through. But we have a Loving Savior who had to wait patiently and Trust that His Father’s plan was better than what He wanted at that time! He drank the bitter cup for us and our sins. He died in our place and we have not been asked to do that! Certainly, we should be able to lay down our pride and bring our burdens before Him (Psalm 55:22).
Our Loving Father deeply cares for us. He has never not done so. The excruciating pains that we go through are ones that He never intends for us to carry. As we lay them at His feet, begin to worship Him for who He is and how He Loves us, we will experience a Peace like we have never known and a Love that Holds and Sustains us through the most difficult times of life. Trust Him, for He can be trusted! He will Hold you and not let you fall (Isaiah 41:10)!
